It's kind of annoying, but it's not getting in my way. What browser are you using [just for reference]?

Ah, my resolution is pretty high, that might be why I'm not having problems with it. What's your screen resolution, if I might ask?

As I've only just started again since being away for years, I honestly don't know what to make of things here. truth be told I'm struggling to figure out what all the fuss is about. Could someone explain to me in laymans terms why people are complaining?

Ah, missed the 3.0 crap.
Yeah, this sucks.I might not have that much of a fleet compared to the big guys, but the honor point system blows even for cargo raiders. I don't care much about the newbie protection, but the honor point thing really isn't a good idea.
Seems that a good portion of the forum staff even agree with the players this time round.
^3.0 rules are the system that the Origin server is using.
::edit:: I wouldn't quit over it though, this move is bound to piss a lot of people off and impact GF profits. I'd wait and see if they actually do implement the changes before I throw in the towel.

I don't know if anyone listens to the RT podcast but one of the people on it has the best line that fits this....
" I should make a graph based on people's expectations of a game and its price. When someone pays 10$ for a game if it is terrible no one cares, because "meh its only 10$ why would I care". However when someone pays 10,000$ for a game they have outrageous expectations to be good, however the expectations are still yet lower than that of a game someone pays absolutely nothing for."
This game is free so who cares if there is a couple of ads, at least they arn't pop-ups like those on the o-game stats site. This noob protection thing will kinda suck because this 50k pts would be annoying but still not the end of the world, because when they go inactive for 7days they are open again.
If you want to get rid of the ads spend the money to buy a commander. My opinion... I will not quit because of this, I really don't care. If this fleet auto save is super gay THAT might make me quit or if they do "pop up" adds which would just be really annoying I might quit. Otherwise I'm still here

Eh, like I said, the toolbar thing isn't a problem for me,though I heard that it's causing problems for people with small screens.
One funny little bit in the new features-
[Feature] Attacks on alliance members and buddies never dishonourable
I suppose we could arrange to raid each other's moons to gain back honor points then, haha. Wouldn't be a bad idea for a training scenario, come to think of it. . .

OGame 3.0 is going to encourage players to do absolutely nothing and become "honourable" and stupid. While any raiding/crashing or punishing incompetent players to increase growth will surely make you a "bandit". Not only are they changing the fundamental game play with that crap-trash but it is going to reduce activity, having valuable players punished and encouraging more noobcakes that aren't going to do anything to increase GameForge revenue; it's a known fact that active fleeting players (would be labelled as "bandits") are more likely to spend their $$ for in-game services than a turtle player with wood in their heads. Surely creating this so-called resources hideouts/bunker or whatever is enough to make incompetent players just a bit more protected, then why bother with these extra elaborate junk (honour system) that does nothing to improve the actual game? Personally i don't mind the fleet-escape system if they keep it to players ranked very low, after all someone with less than 50K point probably don't have a lot of ships to hit anyhow.
Refering to OGame 2.3.2: Apparently there are two ways you can make money from a game or just about anything... make it good so more people will play it to increase your customer base and income pool. Alternatively you can make the game crap to squeeze out an extra penny from your existing players. By the looks of things, GameForge have taken the second approach which is bit of a problem because upset players are more likely to quit than to pay for an extra cent willingly. That "GameForge-Kingsage-SelectCountry-MoreGames" bar does absolutely nothing except to increase loading time, decimating the actual game screen spaces and making players agitated. It’s like they are trying to kick out existing players and replace us with ‘noobcakes’ that can't fleetsave and love crapty toolbars on their browser pages.
Conventional wisdom suggests that it is more than 5 times more difficult to attract a new customer than to keep an existing one, GameForge is doing whatever they are good at to rip-off and kick-out their existing customers even though they know they are absolutely incompetent at increasing their player numbers. If they want more people to use the commander function then why not make the "officers" better instead of making the overall game crappier without them. In fact is there any GameFOrge programmer even reading whatever I or anyone else is writing here? Are they absolutely ignorant and oblivious to what's happening around them? Do they have any marketing commonsense, logic or intelligence? Outsourcing the game graphics to discourage players from using adblock extensions is dumb enough, now this, and what's next? Making it impossible to use the fleeting screen unless you buy the "admiral" officer?

this post is no longer relevant, please scroll down...hey people, in particular otto... i've come up with a fix against that "GameForge-Kingsage-SelectCountry-MoreGames" netbar. it doesn't work perfectly, but if you are willing to follow my instructions bellow then atleast you won't see it all the time; i.e. the overview page: it merely scroll down the page by 30pixels, so you won't see the GameForge bar on a couple of OGame pages that are lengthier unless you scroll up.
first of all, you must be using some Greasemonkey userscripts in particular you need to install "InfoCompte 3": board.ogame.org/board684-ogame-org/board199-help-questions/board200-faqs-guides/639175-list-of-tolerated-ogame-addons/#post8849342 i further highly recomend that you install this somewhat obsolete "Playersearch Button for ogame.GameStats.org" script: board.ogame.org/board684-ogame-org/board199-help-questions/board200-faqs-guides/639175-list-of-tolerated-ogame-addons/#post8849370
now here is the tricky part: go to firefox add-ons manager under user scripts, you need to make sure that "InfoCompte 3" is further up in the execution order than "Playersearch Button for ogame.GameStats.org". next you need to right click on "Playersearch Button for ogame.GameStats.org" and select 'Show containing folder' from the drop-down tab.
find the script and edit it in notepad: replace the contents with the following:
// ==UserScript== // @name Playersearch button for ogame.GameStats.org // @namespace ogame.gamestats.org // @description Adds a button to the menu of redesign to search players on ogame.GameStats.org directly. // @include http://*.ogame.*/game/index.php?page=* // ==/UserScript== window.scroll(0,30)
/*
Usage: Just click on "Playersearch" (the new tab in your leftmenu) and type in the player's name you want to search on GameStats.Press enter or click on the button next to the input field and new tab will be opened with the playe's details page on GameStats.org Maybe you'll have to permit firefox to open popups from ogame pages
*/
function searchPlayer() { var player = document.getElementById('playersearch').value; if (player != 'Playersearch') { var universe = 'andromeda'; var country = 'org'; var url = document.location.href; var pattern = /http:\/\/(.*?)\..*?\.(.*?)\//i; var matches = pattern.exec(url); if (matches != null) { universe = matches[1]; country = matches[2];}
var player = document.getElementById('playersearch').value; window.open('http://ogame.gamestats.org/'+country+'/'+universe+'/search/player/'+player);}
}
function addButton() { var menu = document.getElementById("menuTable"); var span = document.createElement('span'); span.setAttribute('class', 'menu_icon'); var a = document.createElement('a'); a.setAttribute('onClick', 'searchPlayer()');
var img = document.createElement('img'); img.setAttribute('src', 'http://gf1.geo.gfsrv.net/cdn7c/a3a00daf8e8344790bbfbd377d5794.gif'); img.setAttribute('height', '29'); img.setAttribute('width', '38'); img.setAttribute('style', 'cursor:pointer'); img.setAttribute('onmouseover', "this.src='http://gf1.geo.gfsrv.net/cdncc/3f55e51dc251d6dbf5bdd6454c7f7c.gif';"); img.setAttribute('onmouseout', "this.src='http://gf1.geo.gfsrv.net/cdn7c/a3a00daf8e8344790bbfbd377d5794.gif';");
a.appendChild(img); span.appendChild(a); var input = document.createElement('input'); input.setAttribute('type', 'text'); input.setAttribute('id', 'playersearch'); input.setAttribute('value', 'Playersearch'); input.setAttribute('style', 'width: 119px; border: 0px solid #767f88; color: #767f88; background-color: transparent; text-align: center; padding: 2px 0 2px; margin: 3px 7px; font:bold 11px/14px verdana, arial, helvetica, sans-serif; '); input.setAttribute('onclick', "if(this.value=='Playersearch'){this.value='';this.style.border='1px solid #767f88';this.style.color='#f1f1f1';}"); input.setAttribute('onblur', "if(this.value==''){this.value='Playersearch';this.style.border='0px solid #767f88';this.style.color='#767f88';}"); input.setAttribute('onKeyDown', "if(event.keyCode==13) searchPlayer();");
var span2 = document.createElement('span'); span2.setAttribute('class', 'textlabel'); span2.appendChild(input);
var li = document.createElement('li'); li.setAttribute('class', 'menubutton_table'); li.appendChild(span); li.appendChild(span2);
menu.appendChild(li); var script = document.createElement("script"); script.type = "application/javascript"; script.innerHTML = "" + searchPlayer + ""; document.body.appendChild(script);}
window.addEventListener('load', addButton, true);

this post is no longer relevant, please scroll down...ok guys... proudly presenting a script i made: userstyles.org/styles/57253/ogame-fix?r=1322734474
it kills off the "GameForge" netbar, background stars, spinning DarkMatter icon it also removes the ugly grey box on top of your planet image in the overview (it is not perfect; there's about 30 pixels of space where the netbar used to be)
this script also replaces the following images: "message-box" image under alliance page with the "empire" image the main image under defences with something less stupid looking main image under merchant/trader with an awesome looking planet
you can instale the 'Stylish' FireFox Extention from here: addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/stylish

please read this post and follow the instructions...proudly announce that i have just found the ultimate solution !!! i was able to remove the GameForge netbar/toolbar by preventing it from appearing. now, i tried to dismantle the content to get rid off the empty space, which didn't work. but the new trick which does work is to set the height of the content to zero pixels and it works !!! so this is an updated version of the script i uploaded earlier: userstyles.org/styles/57253/ogame-fix?r=1322744832
it kills off the "GameForge" netbar, background stars, spinning DarkMatter icon it also removes the ugly grey box on top of your planet image in the overview (perfect script: it removes 32 pixels of space from where netbar used to exist)
this script also replaces the following images: "message-box" image under alliance page with the "empire" image the main image under defences with something less stupid looking main image under merchant/trader with an awesome looking planet
you can install the 'Stylish' FireFox Extention from here: addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/stylish if you have already installed the earlier one you should delete it first; you may go to Add-on Manager, User Styles (click the remove button) |
as you can see those that got ripped-off (purchased commander with $$) or have made the decision to quit the game weren't thinking before they act. patience is the path to wisdom ;D please don't spread this around too much i may get into trouble from GameForge admin this is a legal script cause 'User Styles' is often used for various 'OGame skins' p.s. this only affect the appearance of the game; provide no unfair advantage
