Well... From what i see I should make a new thread to announce my arrival... So here I am.
I am Drey Wilkins. (My online persona, of course) And I have applied to join your alliance. I got a reply stating that I should create a forum account, then I will be accepted. I apologize for not doing this earlier, but I thought it would be bad practice to join the forum without knowing if I was going to be accepted.
I have been playing for... About four or five days. An astounding record I know, but please hold your applause. I wish to build a peaceful Colony system, hopefully in an empty system - of which I guess there will be none, but anyway... I wish to prosper through trade and diplomacy.
I would have applied to help with the diplomatic part of the Alliance, but as I understand there is only a single Diplomat, so I am happy to reside in the Economics Section.
***
Well, that was a very long winded way to introduce myself. I also noticed that each paragraph began with the letter 'I'. How fun.
Anyway, I thought this would be a good way to introduce myself.
I look forward to joining you all.

hey dude, I'm also new to the alliance. Also the chance that every system is occupied by at least one player is very slim. There are free systems in uni 10 so as andromeda is uni 101, think you have good chances.
However that said you can only have a maximum of 8 or 9 colonies (can't remember which) and very system has 15 planets so the chance that only you will inhabit a system is slim. Best chance is to pick a very remote system. Sometimes alliances pick an empty system and take all 15 planets to make an alliance system so maybe we could do that.
Anyways welcome to ogame and enjoy

Thank you all for the welcome, but Tarsus, may I please mention that the '9 Colonies' cap only applies in the old universes, and that I am in Andromeda, a redesigned universe. In the redesigned Universes, the amount of Colonies one can have is determined by your level in Astrophysics. For every other level you gain, (1,3,5,7,9, ETC) You are able to colonize another planet. If you want to get more information, I learnt this from the Ogame Wiki. Here is the page: Colonizing in Redesigned Universes

wow, things have changed a lot in the years I've been away. I think I prefer the level cap but I like to be in an up to date universe. Anyway that's pretty cool but I can't see myself having many colonies anyway, just enough to sustain my fleets

eventhough there's no cap-limit as to how many planets you are allowed to colonize, it becomes pretty much unfeasible to research Astrophysics beyond level-15 (9 planets). cause to get astrophysics-17; the tenth planet will cost you 48.636.600 metals, 97.273.300 crystals and 48.636.600 deuterium considering another 50 something million of resources to get the mines to a decent level, it becomes an investment that will require perhaps more than 2 years to realize the cost from the additional mining incomes. so 8 colonies and a homeplanet is pretty much the cap for most people.

Fred A has 10 planets and 10 moons.
He did have the lucky goldfinger moonshot partner on his side for the moons however, lol.
Welcome to the alliance guys.

Thank you for the welcome. Now, I have a question:
I cannot activate my account. No matter how many times I tell the forum to resend the code, nothing is showing up in my Gmail inbox.

uhm, check your spam I guess, but yeah, I remember something happening like that before.
I think just wait a day and look, other than that send in a ticket I guess, they are pretty good on support, eventually, lol.

Hm, unfortunately this particular brand of forum software doesn't allow me to manually activate your account fr you.
Shouldn't be a problem though, don't think we have any boards restricted to you, save for the moderator-only page.

Thank you.
Actually, I've been wondering - an Alliance can have several hundred members, but what if they are all spaced out over the universes? Isn't that a little self-defeating.

1) an alliance should not grow too big or have all the members and their planets clustered together, because that way will severely reduce the number of raid/farm/crashable targets for existing members. the way i see it (which may not be the mission of this alliance) is that based on the current server population, an alliance should not have more than 30 to 40 members, especially when galaxies 3 and beyond are very much de-populated. "several hundred members" is simply impossible, an alliance of that size will surely have structual/logistic/communication problems not to meantion that it would be impossible to manage. recruitment of new members primarily serves the alliance by replenishing member count; keep the clan active and replacing members who have for various reason quit the game. indirectly, by accepting new members, the alliance assists with the growth of newer players and providing them with a community thus keeping the OGame alive. most alliances cannot become more powerful by masses, the focus should be organic growth/progress of existing members.
2) most people will colonize planets in different systems, keeping them spread apart thus increase their raiding spectrum and because of this, regardless of where a member's homeplanet is located, players of the same alliance will never be stuck together in one part of a galaxy. further note, that fleet of ships can travel from places and can be teleported instantly between jumpgates on moons owned by the same player.

As Elessar says, mass alliances are generally very messy, have no structure and are just a mess. For instance DARK alliance in andromeda. One of the biggest alliances around but also well known by Everyone in andromeda as a Farm alliance.
If you got a DARK tag next to your name, you are gonna get probed more often simply because they typically provide juicy and easy targets.
It's rare that anyone pulls off a mass alliance that is successfull.

Back in uni10 there was massive problems with mass alliances, alliances deciding to jump the rankings by heavy recruiting. When my alliance combined with two other alliances started waging wars on the mass alliances the number dwindled, but for one reason or another (normally people finishing uni) players in the good alliances left allowing more mass alliances. I tried waging a second crusade but that ended rather badly

Oh, of course. My 'several hundred players' was hypothetical. I already know that there are no Alliances of that size.
